Ashleigh Steel and Ross James Tipper
"In 2010, in a small bedroom in Sydney's Inner-West, two young things first began making sweet tunes together. Ross James Tipper’s penchant for writing ridiculously good pop songs and Ashleigh Steel’s extensive back-catalogue of failed romantic experiences proved the perfect combination for a girl/boy folk/pop/something duo. And thus Achoo! Bless You was born. They love playing live, swapping instruments and telling stories and have supported the likes of Tim Rogers (You Am I), Passenger (UK), Matthew Barber (CAN), Slow Club (UK), Henry Wagons, Dave Graney, Tin Sparrow, Bearhug and Tiny Ruins (NZ).
When Achoo! Bless You released their first cd in June 2011 - ‘The Necessary Space: A Collection of Homemade Recordings’ - it was a completely DIY affair. The tracks were recorded by the band in their home studio, they did their own artwork, and each copy was individually screen printed and hand numbered. They were only available at shows, and sold out in a few weeks.
Almost a year later, the band decided to record their first “proper” EP, booking studio time and enlisting the skills of a producer. But a week out from the scheduled recording time, they cancelled the studio, grabbed a friend to engineer, and headed to a remote beach house a couple hours north of Sydney to once again dive into the world of self-production and DIY recording.
It’s an ethos that is deeply engrained in both Ross & Ash’s minds about how they want things to go. It’s about capturing the music yes, but also about letting in a little (or sometimes a lot) of the people who are making it and their surroundings. And it’s more fun doing it yourself anyway.
No Island is the debut EP from Achoo! Bless You and features the single Before We Say Goodbye, which has garnered airplay on Triple J, Sydney's FBI Radio 94.5 and enjoyed rotation on Triple J's Unearthed Digital station."
